The MW4 Radar and HUD Overlay — Setting Up the Minimap Layer

The radar and HUD layer sits on top of the game — not inside it. MW4’s own minimap keeps doing whatever the mode dictates (UAVs, ghosted lobbies, blackouts), and the loader paints a second, always-on channel over it: enemy dots, team dots, objective pins, a compass strip, a sound-cue ring, and a stats readout. This guide walks through every switch in that layer and where to place the panels so you keep your reticle clean.

What the HUD layer actually is

Think of it as a transparent overlay window that the loader renders on top of the game process. It reads the same world data the ESP uses, then draws 2D shapes at fixed screen coordinates instead of world-anchored 3D boxes. That means the radar keeps working when the game’s own compass is jammed, when a counter-UAV is up, and when you’re prone in a smoke where the ESP boxes might be more distracting than useful.

The overlay is a completely separate toggle tree from the ESP. If you want to run radar only during a stream-safe session, you can — kill the boxes, kill the chams, keep the minimap. The wallhack and ESP guide covers the world-space layer; this one is strictly the screen-space HUD.

The 2D minimap overlay

The default minimap is a circular radar with your rig fixed at center, north-up by default, showing enemy dots in the accent color and teammate dots in a muted blue. Range is set in meters and defaults to 120m, which is roughly one full lane on the mid-size maps. You can push it out to 300m for Ground War or pull it in to 60m for close-quarters like Shipment reworks and shoot houses.

Rotate vs. north-up

Two modes:

  • North-up — the map is fixed, your rig arrow spins. Better for map-memory players who already think in grid coordinates.
  • Rotate-with-view — the map spins under a fixed rig arrow pointing up. Better for reactive players who translate “dot ahead” directly into a swing.

Rotate is the faster read for most operators. North-up is the more accurate read for callouts if you’re running with a squad.

Zoom

Bind zoom in/out to mouse-wheel while ALT is held. It keeps the radar hand-tuned per engagement instead of set-and-forget. Long sightline — zoom out. Building clear — zoom in.

Objective and loot markers

The overlay pins hardpoint rotations, SnD bomb sites, domination flags, and Warzone-mode loot crates as small colored glyphs on the minimap. In extraction modes it’ll tag high-tier crates specifically — you can filter tiers so the map isn’t noise. Turn objective pins off in TDM and free-for-all; they add nothing and eat map real estate.

Compass with headings

A thin strip across the top of the screen showing degree headings (0°/90°/180°/270°) with enemy tick-marks appearing at the bearing they’re actually on. This is the single most under-used feature in the whole HUD. The minimap tells you where; the compass tells you how far to swing. If a tick appears at 45° and your view is at 10°, you need 35° of rotation — no mental math off a spinning radar disc.

Keep the compass strip thin (2–3px) and semi-transparent. It should be readable in peripheral vision without ever pulling focus off the reticle.

Night-vision toggle

A screen-space filter that boosts luminance in dark map zones — the underground sections of the new urban maps, night rotations on Verdansk-style large maps, and the interior corridors that ship at near-black by design. It’s not thermal. It doesn’t paint bodies. It just lifts the shadow floor so you can see geometry and movement that the game engine was trying to hide.

Bind it to a hold key rather than a toggle. You want it live when you’re moving through the dark zone and off the second you’re back in daylight, because in bright areas the filter blows the highlights out and reads worse than the raw game.

FPS, ping, and session stats readout

A small block, usually top-left or top-right, showing:

  • Current FPS and 1% low
  • Ping to the game server
  • Session K/D, kills, deaths, headshot rate
  • Loader uptime this session
  • Time to next repatch check

The uptime and repatch-clock readouts are the two operator-only fields. If the ops desk pushes a mid-session update, you’ll see the countdown here before anywhere else. Median repatch turnaround is about 2 hours after a Ricochet push, and this widget is where you watch it land.

Sound-cue overlay — audio to visual

This is the feature that changes how you play matches where mic callouts don’t exist. The loader hooks the game’s spatial audio channel and translates footsteps, reloads, weapon fire, and equipment throws into visual pings on a ring around your reticle. Loud events push a bigger ring. Directional events land at the correct bearing.

When to use it

  • Solo queue where you have no comms
  • Late-round SnD when you’re last alive and audio-tracking three players
  • Any match where you’re running headphones at low volume for stream-safe recording — the visual ring compensates

Set the sensitivity threshold above suppressor level. You want unsuppressed shots and unsilenced footsteps — not every ambient shell casing.

Web-radar companion on a second screen

The loader can broadcast the radar feed to a local URL on your LAN. Open it on a phone, tablet, or second monitor and you’ve got a full-size top-down map view with dots, headings, and objective pins — separate from your main screen entirely.

Two use cases:

  1. Phone next to keyboard — keeps the main-screen HUD minimal (a stream-safe move) while you get all the info on a device that never touches the capture.
  2. Duo squad — a non-playing spotter reads the phone and calls positions.

The pairing key rotates per session and is scoped to the LAN. Don’t port-forward it.

Placement — keep the reticle clean

The reticle zone is a 400×300 pixel box in the center of the screen. Nothing goes in it. Ever. Here’s the layout that works:

  • Top center — compass strip, 2–3px, 60% opacity
  • Top left — minimap, sized so it fits inside the game’s own top-left HUD zone
  • Top right — stats block, small, 70% opacity
  • Around reticle — sound-cue ring, ~200px radius so it never crosses the crosshair itself
  • Bottom edges — nothing. Leave the killfeed and ammo counters alone.

Boot the console and dial the layer

Sign in at your account, boot the loader, and open the HUD tree in the switches panel. Turn one overlay on at a time, run a live-fire match, tune placement between rounds. The full toggle list and per-feature notes are on the menu page.
